The Destination: Rishikesh and the Himalayan foothills

Rishikesh is a small town in northern India, at the foothills of the Himalayas. It lies in a valley on both banks of the Ganges, India’s sacred river, formed by the pure waters of the Himalayan mountains. Since ancient times, spiritual aspirants have withdrawn to the solitude of the Himalayan mountains to devote themselves to their inner quest. Rishikesh has always been a starting point for these seekers of truth, and over the years many sages have established ashrams here as places of encounter.

Rishikesh is a place of pilgrimage for Indians and international visitors alike. It’s a place where travelers don’t just visit temples, but stay to practice and meditate. It’s a city where you can let yourself be carried away by traditional ceremonies such as the fire rituals dedicated to the Ganges (Ganga Aarti), which take place every evening at sunset. It’s an ideal place to find tranquillity, appreciate the beauty of nature and meet like-minded people.

In 1968, the famous British rock band The Beatles spent some time in Rishikesh, where they created most of the songs on the White Album. The ashram where they stayed can be visited.

Our exploration will also take us to Dehradun and Haridwar, two emblematic towns in northern India.
Dehradun is known for its exceptional natural setting, surrounded by green hills and lush forests. The town is also an important spiritual center, with its many temples and ashrams, and serves as a gateway to sacred destinations such as Rishikesh and Haridwar.

Haridwar, on the banks of the Ganges, is one of India’s holiest cities, and an important spiritual center for Hindus. Known for its ghats (steps leading down to the river) and ancient temples, Haridwar is a place of pilgrimage where the faithful come to purify themselves in the sacred waters of the Ganges. Every evening, the city comes alive with the famous Aarti ceremony, where thousands of floating lamps illuminate the river, creating a mystical atmosphere.
