Talk about spirituality

with Ma Devaki, disciple of Yogi Ramsuratkumar

July 19 - 20, 2025 - Paris

Surya World had the great privilege of welcoming Ma Devki to Paris. During a two-day meeting, we explored together the role of spirituality in today’s world.

Ma Devaki is the principal disciple of Yogi Ramsuratkumar, a revered spiritual master who lived in humble simplicity in the South Indian city of Thiruvannamalai. Known as the Holy Beggar, Yogi Ramsuratkumar renounced all worldly attachments and spent much of his life on the streets, wholly immersed in the Divine presence.

Ma Devaki met Yogi Ramsuratkumar as a young woman during her spiritual search and spent many years by his side. Since the passing of her master, she has devoted herself to preserving and sharing his legacy—not only through the care of his ashram, but above all by transmitting his profound spiritual teachings, imbued with love and compassion.

Ma Devaki was a professor of quantum physics at Sarada College in Salem, India for 20 years. After meeting Yogi Ramsuratkumar for the first time in 1986, she left her career at the university to devote herself to her spiritual path, under the guidance of the great Saint.

She became one of his most devoted disciples, even managing the ashram after the great Yogi left his body in 2001. Since then, she has been sharing her teachings, wisdom and disciple stories in India and abroad.

Yogi Ramsuratkumar (1918 – 2001) is one of the most eminent Yogis of contemporary India. A disciple of Ramana Maharshi, Vivekananda and Sri Aurobindo, his teachings advocate unity, universal love and compassion. Living on alms, his alias was “The Beggar”; he operated anonymously at first, before gaining recognition for his spiritual achievement and high level of consciousness.

Today, people from all over the world visit his ashram at the foot of the sacred Arunachala Mountain, in the town of Tiruvannamalai (Tamil Nadu, South India).
